The global e-fuels and synthetic fuels market is in full expansion. Valued at $7.67 billion in 2025, it is projected to reach $47.3 billion by 2034 with a CAGR of 22.4% (Precedence Research). Europe accounts for approximately 40% of the global market thanks to ReFuelEU regulatory mandates and massive industrial support.
| Segment | Market size 2025 | CAGR | Main driver |
|---|---|---|---|
| ✈️ Aviation (eSAF) | ~$2.8B | +28–35% | ReFuelEU · CORSIA · airline mandates |
| 🚗 Automotive (ICE e-fuels) | ~$1.9B | +22–26% | EU 2035 ICE exemption · Porsche · Aramco |
| 🚢 Maritime (e-methanol) | ~$1.2B | +18–24% | FuelEU Maritime · CII ratings |
| 🏭 Industrial / Defence | ~$0.8B | +15–20% | INERATEC+Rheinmetall · energy security |
| 🧪 Chemistry / Feedstock | ~$0.97B | +14–18% | Petrochemical substitution · e-methanol |
There are four main technological pathways for producing synthetic fuels. The PtL (Power-to-Liquid) pathway is the most strategic as it depends on no biomass and can be deployed wherever renewable electricity is abundant.
